Honouring the Past, Flying the Future.
Welcome to Ekurhuleni East Flying Club, where South African aviation history meets a thriving modern community. Whether you’re a pilot checking live weather, an enthusiast exploring our world-class vintage aircraft collection, or a visitor looking for top-tier maintenance and flight training, our site is your all-access pass to the friendliest fly-in destination in the country.
About Us
Ekurhuleni East Flying Club at Springs Airfield is more than just a licensed municipal landing strip, it is a vibrant community of aviators, restorers, and enthusiasts dedicated to the joy of flight. As the proud home of the Experimental Aircraft Association, we serve as a central hub for South Africa’s general aviation spirit.
A Legacy of Excellence
Our roots run deep in the East Rand. With historical ties to the legendary Dunnottar Air Force Base, our hangars have hosted some of the region’s most prominent figures, from local business leaders to civic pioneers. Today, that legacy lives on through our 182 members and a diverse fleet of over 250 aircraft—ranging from a meticulously maintained 1941 Tiger Moth to modern autogyros and microlights.
Aviation with Purpose
We believe in the power of flight to do good. Our facilities are a critical link in Southern Africa’s conservation efforts, serving as a specialized maintenance hub for light aircraft used in anti-poaching operations across Limpopo and beyond.
Community and Education
At our core, we are an inclusive space for learning. Through the East Rand Gliding Club and our various flight academies, we offer affordable tuition and mentorship. Whether you are a beginner taking your first discovery flight or an advanced pilot perfecting your craft, our team of qualified volunteer instructors are here to guide you.
Join the Celebration
Every two years, we open our gates to the public for the Wheels and Wings event in partnership with the Addie and African Reporter. It’s our way of sharing the magic of our uncontrolled, grassroots airfield with the community that makes our growth possible.
